Are you headed (back) to Kalos with Pokémon Legends: Z-A? You aren’t the only one. Thanks to a fun little easter egg (or Pokéball, perhaps) in The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits, your Sims, too, can get in on the fun.
A games console added in the new Expansion Pack includes a game on it that looks suspiciously… familiar. In Voidcritters, your Sims can enjoy the thrill of turn-based monster battling.
First teased in the DLC’s reveal trailer, the Voidcritter game is a totally new addition to The Sims 4. Despite that, the collectable creatures are actually mentioned in several other DLC, including in the form of a collectable card game. Remind you of anything?
When your Sim boots up the game, the inspiration is immediately obvious. Not only are there fighting monsters (which, of course, could be anything. I mean, strictly speaking, it could be Palworld), but the on-screen UI is always incredibly familiar. And it’s not just because of the turn-based battle mechanics.
The console’s name is also referential to other Nintendo products. I mean, the Nostalgic Entertainment System? That could be anything…
How to get your Sims into Voidcritters
You can play Voidcritters using the Nostalgic Entertainment System. You can grab this item from Build/Buy Mode, in the Electronics section, and place it in front of your Sim’s TV. Alternatively, you can just plug the item name into the search bar.
Head back into Live Mode and interact with the console. Then, select the Play Game or Play Multiplayer Game interaction. Next, pick Voidcritters from the list. Before you know it, they’ll be locked in combat right in front of your eyes.
To be able to use this console, you’re going to have to make sure you have The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits, as it’s one of the decor items that comes with the pack. There are a few other consoles available – mostly in Base Game, at that – but they won’t come with the Pokémon easter egg.
Voidcritters: TCG
Alternatively, if you have The Sims 4: Kids Room Stuff, you can collect the Voidcritter card game. You can either find them randomly by rummaging in bins, trade cards with other Sims, or buy them via a PC.
Once you’ve started to build your collection, you can put them out on counters as a collector’s item, or play with them using the Voidcritter Battle Station. There are 20 Voidcritters to collect, alongside some rather shiny– I mean, shimmering Limited Edition Foil Cards.
