The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits: Papercraft guide

A papier-mache frog on a table next to a pop-up rainbow celebration card. in The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits.

Although most of the activities introduced in The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits revolve around getting outdoors, like kayaking and diving, some of the pack’s undersung additions actually focus on keeping cosy indoors.

One of those features is the new papercraft skill, which unlocks a huge list of new items for your Sims to play with.

What is the papercraft skill?

The papercraft skill is a Major Skill focussed on crafting origami, making cards, and building papier-mache models to put on display.  It has ten levels to it, with each level unlocking new items for your Sims to make.

What do you need to level the papercraft skill?

To start your journey through papercraft, you’re going to need to pick up the DIY Delight Papercrafting Kit from Build/Buy Mode. It’s in the Activities & Skills section, under Creative.

The item costs a nice 20 Simoleons, making it one of the cheaper skill items in the game. Despite that, you will need to spend a small fee for every item you craft with it.

How to use the DIY Delight Papercrafting Kit in The Sims 4

You can place the DIY Delight Papercrafting Kit on any surface your Sim can sit at with a chair. This includes dining tables, desks, and picnic benches. You can also take it on the go by sticking it in your Sim’s inventory.

To use the kit, select it and choose either the Create Origami or Create Paper Mache interaction. This’ll open up a sub-menu, where you can choose exactly what you’re going to make.

Your Sim will sit down and get to work, and in a few minutes, you’ll have a new craftable.

What do you unlock at each level of the papercrafting skill?

Each level of the papercrafting skill unlocks new craftables and different colours for your wares. Here’s what you unlock at each level:

LevelUnlocked
1Origami butterflies, aeroplanes, and a couple of papier-mache animals.
2Craft papier-mache plants, a wider range of origami butterflies, and more papier-mache animals.
3A wider variety of colours will become available for everything listed above. You’ll also unlock the Doodle cootie catcher.
4More plants, plus some rather cute origami frogs. You’ll also unlock your first Friendship card at this level, and a Voidcritter cootie catcher.
5Different papier-mache animals, plus more frogs. This is also where you’ll unlock the final Fun Time cootie catcher.
6Origami llamas, alongside new colours for frogs and more different animals. Love cards will also start becoming unlocked at this stage.
7Origami cranes, more llama colours, and – you guessed it – even more animals.
8Origami jellyfish, plus more colours of cranes and llamas. You’ll start unlocking Themed cards from here on out.
9Wall-mounted papier-mache animal heads (which actually look like masks), and new jellyfish and crane colours.
10A range of incredible low-poly bird statues, plus more animal heads and jellyfish colours.

What exactly are all of the papercrafts you can unlock?

There’s an honestly overwhelming volume of craftables to choose from with the new skill. They’re split up into one of three categories – origami, papier-mache, and cards – which I’ll break down below.

Origami

All of the origami you can make with the papercrafting skill are:

  • Butterflies
  • Paper aeroplanes
  • Cootie catchers
  • Frogs
  • Llamas
  • Cranes
  • Jellyfish

You don’t unlock every animal at each skill stage, as some colours and patterns are hidden at higher skill levels. Be sure to check in on your options every so often as you grind the skill.

Papier-mache

Almost every papier-mache sculpture you can make is animal-themed:

  • Funky animal
  • Plant
  • Scary “Peculiar Plumbird” mask
  • (Better) animal
  • Wall-mounted head
  • Totally realistic critter

You’ll unlock different animal types and colours as you go.

Cards

There are three general types of cards to choose from, each with several different designs that you’ll unlock at different skill levels:

TypeDesigns
FriendshipHave a Beautiful Day
Winter Greetings
Don’t You Gnome You’re My Friend
Blooming Friendship
Haunted Hello
Fluttering Friendship
LoveTwo-Hearts
Love is in the Air
Bear-y Fond of You
Tied to My Heart
ThemedCelebration
Consolation

Can you get rich from selling papercrafts?

TBC. You can absolutely sell them for profit, though, so I guess anything’s possible. It would take a while (and a lot of papercuts) to get there though.

Papercrafts also sell for varying amounts depending on their quality. Excellent quality papercrafts sell for much more on average than Normal quality papercrafts, for instance. However, I would say that it doesn’t seem like Normal or even Poor quality works come by often, so you can probably expect to make some money back at least.

Here’s an idea of what you can expect to sell some Excellent quality papercrafts for:

  • Paper aeroplane: 8 Simoleons
  • Funky animal frog: 11 Simoleons
  • Have a beautiful day card: 17 Simoleons

Keep in mind that you have upfront costs to cover when making papercrafts, meaning you won’t be pocketing the full number of Simoleons you sell the items for.
