Adventure Awaits has reintroduced a skill we last saw in The Sims 3 era: Diving. This Minor Skill gives your Sims the chance to make a splash while on a Getaway (or make a fool out of themselves at the local pool) by learning different shapes and poses to pull in the air.
Unlike archery, it’s a fairly straightforward skill to perfect. Just be careful not to crash land on any kayakers while figuring out how to pull off a Front Twister Flip.
How to level the diving skill
Learning how to dive is fairly self-explanatory: you need to practice using a diving board. The diving board is a new item with Adventure Awaits. You can find them in the Outdoor Activities section of Build/Buy Mode.
Select a diving board and choose the Practice Diving interaction. With this selected, your Sim will continuously dive for as long as they have the energy.
You can also build the skill by getting your Sim to perform specific jumps. However, this is a one-time interaction, meaning you’ll have to queue it up again. It’s much more efficient to use the Practice interaction instead.
Alternatively, if you have Get Together, you can build the skill using diving platforms. This means you might be able to find them at select lots in Windenburg, the world that came with the Expansion Pack.
Every diving skill item in The Sims 4
First off, build a swimming pool using the pool tool. You won’t be able to place a board or tower over a pond or any other natural body of water. You wouldn’t want to accidentally kill your Sim, after all…
Once you’ve got your pool, you’re ready to buy a board or tower. Here’s every diving skill item in The Sims 4:
Item name | Cost | Associated Expansion |
The Short ‘n Woodsy Diving Board | 300 | Adventure Awaits |
The Quintessential Diving Board: Short Edition | 350 | Adventure Awaits |
The Tall ‘n Woodsy Diving Board | 400 | Adventure Awaits |
The Quintessential Diving Board: Tall Edition | 425 | Adventure Awaits |
Jump-And-Splash 8000 | 315 | Get Together |
Belly Flop of the Ancients | 330 | Get Together |
Mr.Jumpy Jump | 370 | Get Together |
Some boards are taller than others, allowing more room for your Sims to contort themselves into different cool shapes. Make sure to keep that in mind and try to grab your Sims a taller board if you can drop the extra cash.
What happens at each level of the diving skill?
Given it’s a Minor Skill, there are five levels of benefits to learning how to dive. Here’s what you unlock at each skill level:
Level | Benefits |
1 | Sims can use classic jumps at diving boards and towers, as well as being able to practice diving. |
2 | You’ll unlock the Lounger Jump. |
3 | You can now perform the Front Pike Flip. |
4 | You’ll be able to do the Reverse Pike Dive. |
5 | And finally, expert divers can do the Front Twister Flip. |
Who can learn diving?
Kids, Teens, Young Adults, Adults, and Elders can all learn how to dive in The Sims 4. Child Sims will concurrently build the Motor Skill, while everyone else will also build the Fitness skill.
Watch out for the Dangerously Tired moodlet if you have any Elder Sims practicing their belly flops. If they push through and keep exercising, it can actually kill them. Morbid, I know.
