Take an early look at The Sims Resource’s new virtual dressing room

An overview of The Sims Resource's CC Viewer, showing a Sim wearing a green summer dress, green heels, and lots of jewelry. She's on a retro background and has blonde hair.

If you love to deck your Sims out with community-made custom content, then The Sims Resource is the platform for you. With over 300,000 creations available for use with The Sims 4 alone, there’s more than enough clothes, hairstyles, and accessories to choose from. And very soon, you’ll be able to try out custom content without even having to boot up your game.

Enter The Sims Resource’s LookBuilder: a dress-up doll-style asset viewer. It’s integrated into your browser, and is packed with everything you could possibly want to adorn your Sims with.

It works like a virtual dressing room where you can try on all kinds of different custom content ahead of adding them to your game. The asset viewer is crammed with wearable items made by content creators like S-Club, thisisthem Puresim, and other creative Simmers who’ve uploaded their creations to The Sims Resource’s catalogue of goodies.

A closer look at The Sims Resource’s LookBuilder

The Sims Resource’s LookBuilder is immensely straightforward to use. You can toggle through each section to choose content. Clicking on different items will preview what they look like when worn by a Sim instantly in your browser. Like what you see? Just hit the download selected button and you’ll have your new custom content ready in no time.

There’s a lot of custom content to flick through, so the built-in filter is massively useful, too. For example, you can refine the hair options with just a few clicks to slim down the options to only short hair or updos. This is particularly handy if you know what sort of thing you’re looking for. The accessories filters are especially useful, as there’s loads of options available, including some fun alternative and grungy jewelry.

The LookBuilder’s interface is slick and easy to navigate your way around, too. If you know your way around Create-a-Sim – which, if you’re here, you probably do – then you’ll be able to get to grips with this in no time at all. Rifling through all of the custom content the viewer has to offer is pretty simple. And, the controls for rotating and zooming in on your Sim is also intuitive. Plus, you don’t have to worry about Create-a-Sim forcing you into Detail-Edit Mode this way. Looking at your Sims’ new garms has never been easier.

All of the custom content you can try renders really nicely in the browser, so there’s no need to worry about any surprises when you load it up later. Switching between various accessories and outfits takes no time at all, making it a real breeze to mix and match looks. Thankfully, it also takes next to no resources to run properly. It’s about as lightweight as any other website.

The Sims Resource teased the new tool over on their socials, including a trailer over on their Instagram and YouTube channel. It shows off some of just some of the custom content you’ll have to choose from, alongside the interface.

The post shared on their Instagram also confirms that their new custom content viewer will be available for free. It’s entering early access on June 30th, so keep an eye on their social media between now and then.
