Warning to all The Sims 4 players who enjoy utilizing mods and CC: multiple popular CC creators have recently experienced their accounts being compromised throughout late April, with hackers swapping out the download files for malware and viruses.
Obviously, this is quite an important situation that can catch unsuspecting individuals off guard, so players have been urged to double-check any recent Sims 4 mods and CC folders for suspicious files.
Which The Sims 4 Mods/CC Are Affected By Malware?
On April 13, a very popular mods/CC creator for The Sims 4, Simandy, announced on Discord that her account on SimFileShare had been hacked, and warned all fans against downloading anything of hers under that site for the time being.
If you have downloaded any Simandy files, or any files from SimFileShare, on or near this date, then it is worth doing a very thorough check of the files which you downloaded to ensure they are not ridden with malware or hidden viruses. The best way to do this is to run an antivirus program/malware detector and erase any file that shows up as suspicious.
Following the unfortunate situation with Simandy, another popular creator, TheNinthWaveSims, was also hit with a very similar attack. In this situation, the announcement regarding their account and CC/downloads states that multiple links leading to mod files they have created now instead redirect to a malicious zip folder titled “install.exe”.
if you happen to accidentally download this file then immediately delete it and run thorough antivirus/malware scans. In the case that you do download, unzip, or install such files, then you run the risk of infecting your PC.
When it comes to Sims mods, these are usually files with the .package extension. Anything else may run the risk of being an iffy download, so always be vigilant.
At this point, SimsFileShare is aware of these accounts being compromised and is working hard to find a solution to prevent anyone else from falling victim to these downloads.
Keep an eye out for more updates on all things The Sims, and don’t forget to take a look through the site to stay informed on the latest news and announcements.
