Ah, they grow up so fast. At least, Newborns do if you’re playing The Sims 4. Even on a long lifespan.
Babies in The Sims 4 are a controversial topic. If I’m being honest, it’s for a good reason. They’re basically considered to be objects – loud, crying, messy objects – thanks to the way they’re pretty much constrained to their basinettes.
Yes, I know calling babies objects is awful. Don’t blame me. I didn’t make them that way.
You can’t really do a whole lot with Newborns. Infants (who are admittedly bugged most of the time) at least offer some interesting interactions, and Toddlers can at least start to walk, talk, and generally take care of themselves a little.
With that in mind, you’re probably wondering when your bundle of joy is going to grow up and get a bit more…joyful.
When will my Newborn hurry up and grow into an Infant?
The exact answer depends on which lifespan length you’re playing on. Unless you’re using mods, you’re going to be playing with a Short, Normal, or Long lifespan. If you haven’t tweaked your settings, then you’re going to be playing on a Normal lifespan.
Without taking matters into your own hands, your Newborn will age up after the set amounts of time:
- Short: Half a day
- Normal: One day
- Long: Four days
Yes, the four days do feel absolutely painful. Thankfully, there’s something you can do to hurry things along, should you want to.
Sick of Check Infant, Check Infant, Check Infant?
If you’re committed to jumping into the terrible twos, then you can skip the worst bits whenever you’re ready. All you need to do is use the Age Up interaction.
While playing as a Young Adult or Adult Sim, click on your Newborn or their bassinet to bring up a list of interactions. You should be able to see the Age Up option. Select that, and give your Sim a few minutes to grab their baby.
Before you know it, your Newborn will float up in a big plume of sparkles. A menu will appear where you can choose your little one’s personality for their next lifestage, before they then float back to the ground as an Infant.
