The Sims Legacy Collection Patch 5 Patch Notes Clean up Some Common Issues

Possibly one of the most exciting announcements for the broader gaming community when The Sims 25th anniversary came around was the launch of The Sims Legacy Collection on platforms like Steam. Whatever your opinion on EA I think it’s fair to say that there’s a reason many won’t give The Sims 4 a fair shake, but for many the nostalgia factor of these older Sims titles are enough to draw them in.

Unfortunately with that launch came a host of bugs and problems, as might be expected from 20+ year old releases. Naturally, this provoked the usual eye-rolling, but fortunately EA haven’t decided to leave these releases to wallow, and a new patch for The Sims 1 & 2 Legacy Collections has been launched.

So, while issues remain there’s also some key new info on what may cause some of you ongoing issues; let’s dig in!

Patching up the cracks

Naturally, the key changes for both The Sims 1 & 2 is in the general stability and performance improvements. However, we’ve also found out new issues that explain why some of you may be having troubles with running the games on newer systems.

For one, The Sims 1 requires a Vulkan-capable GPU, of which you’ll need to check whether your card is compatible. Similarly, on The Sims 2 players with Intel Arc systems are facing issues due to Intel dropping support for Directx9 rendering. So for those who’re still facing issues it’s worth checking whether your setup might face either of these problems.

In Progress

At the same time just a glance at the patch notes indicates that EA are working on fixes, although credit should of course go to the team they have working on it. I think that while The Sims 4 may be the hottest thing in the community it’s worth keeping an eye on these legacy releases, both for how they represent the franchise changing and improving, and for features (like the Burglar) we’d all want to see return.
