A trailer for a trailer? Yes, as you may’ve guessed by the title the first teaser for the Sims 4’s upcoming expansion, Adventure Awaits, has gone live. While only roughly 16 seconds, this YouTube Short does offer our first look at the new expansion in action.
It seems initial ideas that this was going to be an outdoors-themed expansion were indeed true! So here’s what we found out, and just a tiny bit of speculation to go with it.
Outdoor pursuits
Unsurprisingly, the main focus in Adventure Awaits seems to be on outdoor pursuits and a resort-like atmosphere. We see kayaking, archery and an exercise class taking place, which suggests plenty of new activities and furniture being added as part of this expansion.
That also suggests a new world, which is pretty obviously what we’re being shown. Those hoping for a tropical paradise might be mildly disappointed however, as it looks as if we’re headed to the Pacific Northwest, with a more ‘adventure camp’ flavour than Indiana Jones.
There are some fans who think that this world may take us outside the US and Europe. The bird spotted at the end of the teaser has been tentatively identified as a Takahate, which would certainly indicate an area inspired by New Zealand.
Break away from the everyday
In essence what we see first is archery, exercise bikes and- *ahem* a new woohoo spot, with the zoomed out sequence at the end suggesting kayaking could be another new activity. I’d predict that this new world could function both as a destination world for vacationers and possibly as a residential one.
With the latter, it’s a bit more pie-in-the-sky but it’d certainly add a new twist to the pack. American (and worldwide) readers will know adventure camps and summer camps as being a seasonal thing. So maybe you can have your Sims reside in this new world with some having regular jobs and others working in a local adventure camp?
Could certainly present an interesting job dynamic.
Mixed reactions
Certainly initial reactions to the teaser have been mixed amongst commenters. But I’m sure some of that will be addressed with the full reveal tomorrow. Right now many people seem to be stuck on the point of whether this simply rehashes stuff added in Outdoor Retreats, or worse adds in stuff that should’ve been in that pack.

If the new world does indeed take us away from European and US-inspired worlds, it would be a major change. And it could certainly suggest a brand new course for The Sims 4’s expansions moving forward, something that would make Adventure Awaits very much worth the wait (pun intended).
Either way, this new expansion looks to be an exciting addition with a new world, placeables and other goodies if nothing else. But whether or not Adventure Awaits manages to fully bring the magic of the outdoors to your PC screen is another matter entirely!
