The long-awaited update to Ailments in the Enchanted By Nature expansion is finally coming. Tomorrow!
Enchanted By Nature’s Lead Designer Nate opened up about Ailments in a recent blog post leading up to the update on August 19th. He explained that Ailments were meant to create “interesting situations” and change how you play the game. An Ailment could create challenges or advantages for Sims — the Greenie Meanie’s Ailment makes relationships a bit worse but gardening a bit better! Perfect for plant-loving, chronically single Millennials.
However, players had issues with the way Ailments worked, largely with the way that Ailments could be contagious and spread from Sim to Sim. I mean, yeah, nothing contagious is ever exciting from my experience. In response, developers promised an upcoming change to Ailments in the form of a toggle (you can choose if you want Ailments to be contagious or not).
Now, it’s finally here.
“We’re going beyond the recent patch, which reduced the chance of contagious Ailments spread across the game, to also add a new settings toggle which disables Ailment spread completely,” Nate wrote.
How to make Ailments not contagious in Enchanted By Nature
Tomorrow’s update should be a breeze to navigate. If you don’t want Ailments to spread, here’s what you gotta do:
- Head to the Main Menu
- Select Game Options
- Go to Pack Settings
- Select Enchanted By Nature
- Disable “Enable Ailment Spread”
Doing this will ensure that Ailments can’t spread form one Sim to another. Sims also can’t pick up Ailments while going about their day. If you want a more depressingly realistic Sim world, you can simply toggle it back. Sims that are already infected with an Ailment will not be cured if you disable Ailment spread.
“We hope that adding this toggle setting will help you find new and more satisfying ways to incorporate Enchanted by Nature in your play and storytelling,” Nate added. “Now if you’ll excuse me, my Sims have a date to press some flowers then take a nap in the forest. Dag Dag!”
While the Sims 4 community enjoyed Nate’s commentary on the Ailment upgrade, a lot of players have still expressed skepticism over the addition of “unbalanced” Ailments to begin with. Others noted that EA has still not fixed other ongoing issues in the game.
