The Sims 4 devs have recently announced a new update related to the Ailments feature, introduced in Enchanted By Nature.
According to the team, the update — which will arrive “in a future patch” — will bring a new setting that can be toggled by players to reduce how frequently contagious Ailments spread.
It is not yet clear just how soon this change may arrive, but it is worth noting that there is word of an expected update for August 19 among the community. Apparently, this patch will introduce new skin customisation options, but it is not yet clear if this is the “future patch” the devs were referring to for the Ailment option.
How The Sims 4 Ailments update will work
According to the dev team, players will be able to turn off the contagious spreading of Ailments through a toggle switch in the settings menu. This likely comes following frequent discussion and frustration among players towards Ailments following Enchanted By Nature’s release.
Here’s what they had to say about the concept:
We’ve heard your feedback on Ailment tuning in Enchanted by Nature and we’re developing a toggle to enable or disable Ailments spreading contagiously, coming in a future patch. Once disabled, Sims who already have Ailments will need to wait it out or seek a cure, but no more Sims will contract Ailments through spontaneous spread. By disabling both Enable Balance & Imbalance and Enable Ailment Spread, this will disable all natural sources of Ailments.
This is a huge positive change for Ailments. Whilst some fans enjoy a bit of a challenge, Ailments are capable of spreading rapidly and infecting others. On top of this, they tend to require specific cures, or just waiting them out. This makes them overwhelming to many players, so it’s nice to have the idea of a “chill mode” toggle.
