The Sims 4 is nothing without saves. Let’s be real – who wants to have their Sim practice something for hours and then have to do that again when it doesn’t save? We all have our limits. That’s why the save file corruption has been a big issue for quite some time now.
Sims publisher EA has given an update on the troubling and ongoing problem – but don’t expect anything just yet.
What is the save file corruption issue in The Sims 4?
The Sims’ For Rent expansion has been the biggest culprit of the save file corruption error. This was originally released back in 2023, allowing Simmers to manage apartments and town homes – essentially become a landlord in our increasingly capitalist society. Just like our real life experiences renting from suspicious property managers, you can die of mold in The Sims 4 as well!

Of course, there’s only so many times you want to repeat that mold issue, which is why players have been asking for a fix to the save file corruption issue for a while now.
According to EA, there are “29 known issues” that have been fixed in For Rent. Unfortunately, there are 37 other issues that are apparently ongoing, with 26 currently under investigation and community members attempting to find more information for the other 11. The most important of those issues is the save file corruption bug.
Simmers have reported entire properties disappearing and a never-ending white screen related to the issue. The August 19th update has only exacerbated the issue. While Maxis has attempted to fix the disappearing properties, the team is still waiting on player feedback to ensure it’s completely resolved.
In other words, the update from EA is sorta a bunch of nothing.
