The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a bit of an oddity so far. Reception has been broadly positive, but it’s also not really hit in the same way its predecessor did. Functioning as more of a technical upgrade, the question has still been asked enough that it’s worth addressing:
Will the Sims 4 make its way to Nintendo Switch 2?
Switch it up
Now the obvious first answer here is that there technically haven’t ever been plans to bring The Sims 4 to the original Switch. That’s despite the fact that a brief error on EA’s official website indicated that it would be coming to Switch back in 2024.
But that’s not to say this is pie-in-the-sky thinking. The Sims 4 has a vast fanbase including many more ‘casual’ gamers (whatever that means) who adore playing on the portable console. Of course, given the technical limitations of the original Switch this was likely to not be the case anyway.
The technical issue
The fact is that if there’s one thing Nintendo isn’t known for, it’s cutting-edge technology. Many of their consoles have been low power, but dependable and focused on style and proven techniques over reckless innovation. That’s not to say some haven’t pushed the envelope however, like Breath of the Wild did.
But ultimately, even on the Switch 2 there’s still the issue that its specs could be comparable more to the last gen than current gen consoles. Beefy for a handheld yes, but not ideal for The Sims 4. Especially considering that on consoles like the PlayStation 4 there’s still plenty of issues running The Sims 4 (which itself is in need of tuning up a decade since launch).
At the same time I wouldn’t dismiss the idea of The Sims 4 coming to Switch 2 out of hand. It’s possible – although this is pure tinfoil hat thinking – that the error on the site was due to some early testing for the Switch 2 version of listing The Sims 4.
So, likely? No. Possible? Very much so. Especially since the demand is manifestly still there. But don’t hold your breath.
