Antiques, oceans, and open worlds: life sim Paralives’ world has a lot to offer

In some ways, a life simulator can only really be as good as the world it’s set in. This has been made clear over the years, through both compliments and complaints made throughout the community about The Sims’ worlds.

Because of this, I’m always curious to know exactly what kind of map we’re going to be playing in when a new life sim is announced. So, over the past few months, I’ve been curious about how Paralives’ world is going to wind up.

The upcoming indie sim sounds super promising, complete with a bunch of different features, gameplay modes, and an ambitious roadmap

But one upcoming feature really caught my eye. If you’re a fan of The Sims 3, then I’m sure it’ll excite you, too – and that’s the map. Paralives promises to have an open world map for optimal exploration. And, based on what we know so far, it sounds like it’s going to be a rather big open world indeed.

Where the Parafolk roam (and shop, explore, drink coffee, etc)

Paralives’ town is a hilly coastal area, complete with green hills and loads of beautiful, tall buildings. The trailer gave us a quick peek into the map’s built-up area, including a quirky-looking antique shop, cafes, cliffs, tunnels, winding paths, and tonnes more. Then, a public Patreon post firmed up a few details for us.

All in all, it looks to be a rather cute, old-fashioned coastal town. You can expect a lot of historic stone buildings and big, blue sea views.

But, from the sounds of things, that’s not all that Paralives’ map will be. It’s actually just a very small part of it.

Actually, quite a few of the areas shown in the trailer look to be very far apart from one another. Since it’s going to be an open-world affair, it sounds like that’s going to be a lot of ground to cover.

In addition to everything mentioned so far, it seems worth underlining that it looks like visitable businesses will be a part of Paralives’ map from the get-go. Personally, I can’t wait to go hunting for bric-a-brac as soon as my Parafolks set up home in the town.

The Paralives dev team have also shared a more detailed look at where your Paras are going to call home over on their Patreon page. However, this update is for Patreon subscribers only – so we’ll leave it up to you to find out more.

Paralives is set to enter Early Access on May 25th, 2026. This follows a delay from the life sim’s original release date. You can expect all kinds of updates, changes, and free additions throughout the Early Access Period.
