Adventure Awaits in The Sims 4’s new getaway-themed Expansion Pack

The seasons have started to change in much of the world, which can only mean one thing: a new season of content for The Sims 4.

EA has kicked off the new season by revealing the life sim’s next Expansion Pack, Adventure Awaits. The trailer gives us a glimpse into loads of new activities and locations, all against a mountainous backdrop covered in palm and fir trees.

What kind of Adventure Awaits your Sims?

As suggested by earlier leaks, The Sims 4’s 20th Expansion is going to flesh out its vacation and holidaymaking system. In the reveal trailer, we can see Sims cavorting around a new volcanic resort. Think swimming with jellyfish, kayaking around creeks, and catching butterflies with huge nets. Y’know, all of the things that would be perfect for a Sim with the Loves Outdoors trait.

It’s not all thrill-seeking (or selfie-taking) in the wilderness, though. Adventure Awaits offers vacations for the whole family, with the teaser showing off kids’ summer camps and a Simstagram-worthy take on Love Island. I mean, Love Highland.

As many new kids’ activities as you can imagine

An imaginary friend who is red with red hair is coming to life in front of a child Sim in The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits. The room is a log cabin with bunk beds.

Looking for something for your household’s little ones? Welcome to Camp Gibbi Gibbi, where kids can hang out, learn how to fire a bow and arrow, and play around in a gigantic jungle gym. The new gyms look particularly fantastic, as it seems like we’ll be able to customise them completely using modular furniture.

Don’t worry about the more indoorsy kids being left out while their pals go off adventuring. The Pack reintroduces a fan-favourite from The Sims 3: Generations, which is perfect for shy Sims who’d rather stay in their cabins. Imaginary Friends are back and as weird-looking as ever.

Cultural references galore

If you’re eagle-eyed, you might’ve caught one more thing in the back of the cabin. Are those Sims playing… Pokemon? I’m sure it’s just a completely copyright-friendly console game for VoidCritters that just so happens to have turn-based combat and a similar UX. Of course.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the summer camp t-shirt is giving Camp Halfblood a little?

Make a splash on Love Highland

If you’re looking for something a little more adult-oriented, then there’s plenty for older Sims to get involved with too. You could take a getaway to focus on your fitness, reconnect with nature, or, best of all, fight it out on Love Highland. Which suspiciously rhymes with a popular reality show.

Adventure Awaits looks like it’s making a long-standing tradition of Simstube canon by introducing some kind of reality TV-style elimination system for events. I see many, many takes on Survivor in our Sims’ near futures.

A host of Sims are shown alongside to compete with one another in the face of new Challenge Modifiers. Just a few of the challenge modifiers include a couple of skill-based competitions and social challenges, like the delightfully named Everybody Hates Each Other.

And of course, one of the options is a romantic competition, where Sims can find love – or risk being sent home all alone.
