The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits: Archery guide

Two Sims doing archery in Gibbi Point in The Sims 4, one using a bow while the other shrugs.

The (a)wait is over: The Sims 4’s Getaway-themed Expansion Pack, Adventure Awaits, is finally here

The new DLC has introduced us to a flurry of new features, including new careers, custom venues, and a couple of new skills. One skill is archery, which your Sims can now learn by heading over to most lots in Gibbi Point.

Besides a fun callback to The Sims: Vacation, a very similar Expansion from more than twenty years ago, archery is a fairly fun way to spend a few hours in-game. But there are a few things you might want to know before you get started.

Here’s everything you need to know to turn your Sim into the ultimate archer.

What is archery in The Sims 4?

Archery is a Minor Skill. This means it only has five levels for you to achieve to max it out. Each level comes with its own benefits, ranging from talking about archery with other Sims to shooting apples off their heads.

What happens at each level of the archery skill?

The benefits of each level are:

LevelBenefits
1Sims can practice archery at a target. As with other skills, this level unlocks basically instantly.
2Sims can compete in archery competitions, as well as boast about their skills to others. Even though they’re less than halfway through the skill tree.
3Sims unlock some new archery equipment at this level – namely, the Advanced Bow and an Archery Glove. You can access the glove through Create-a-Sim (so via a mirror or wardrobe), and the bow by interacting with an archery target. They’ll also be able to discuss archery techniques with other Sims.
4This level unlocks another upgraded bow, again usable through a target, and an armguard in Create-a-Sim. The Expert Bow is the highest quality of bow you can use.

You can also do two new things with your bow and arrow. You’ll be able to bowfish, and mentor novice archers.
5Congratulations, you’ve maxed out the skill! Now for perhaps the most pointless part (that I’m sure you’ve been waiting for). You can now shoot apples off other Sims’ heads.
You’ll also unlock a Build/Buy Mode item called the Sky Piercer. It’s in the Wall Decorations section.

Who can learn archery?

Any Sims who have at least reached the Child life stage can perfect their bow and arrow skills. The skill level carries over as Sims age up, too, so no need to worry about getting rusty as you grow up.

How can Sims learn archery?

A Sim in leisurewear stood looking at an archery target and hay bales in the park in Adventure Awaits.

You just need to buy a bullseye, or head to a venue that has one set up already. You can get the Bullseye! Archery Target from Build/Buy Mode for 315 Simoleons. Or, you can become a Chief Ranger by maxing out the Park Ranger career and get given the Ranger’s Esteem Archery Target for free.

When you’re ready to try out archery, just select a target and use the Practice Archery interaction. Once you get better

Where can you find archery targets in Gibbi Point?

You have a few options if you prefer to try before you buy. Archery targets are dotted all over Gibbi Point, including in:

  • On the pier in Jellyfish Junction on festival or competition days
  • Crystal Valley’s park, which you can get to by heading to the Fearful Fish Lounge or any other lots in the neighborhood
  • Wanderwood Wild’s Camp Gibbi Gibbi
  • Plumbird Park, which is also in Wanderwood Wilds

You could also stick a few down in pre-built public lots if you don’t want to venture all the way out to Gibbi Point. I think they’d fit perfectly into the Rec Centre in San Sequoia, for example.

Can you grind the archery skill?

Nope. Your Sim will tire while learning their way around a bow and arrow pretty quickly, making them more likely to injure themselves. Sims with an injury buff won’t be able to practice again until it passes, much like when Sims prick themselves while learning how to cross-stitch.

But if you want to max out the archery skill a little quicker, you can try being mentored by another Sim with a higher skill than you. You can do this easily by interacting directly with the archery target when another Sim with a higher skill is nearby. I found that Nigel, Camp Gibbi Gibbi’s counsellor, is a good bet for this.

If you have other DLC installed, you also might be able to take advantage of cross-pack functionality to level a little faster. You could try attending a lecture with Businesses & Hobbies, or sit in on a skill class for 250 Simoleons with Discover University. This way you can boost your Sim’s archery skill without getting injured.
