Between nectar-making, keg parties, and Oasis Springs’ very own The Blue Velvet Nightclub, it seems safe to assume that alcohol is in The Sims 4.
Right?
Wrong! Cancel that rager. The Sims 4 doesn’t really have alcohol at all. Just a few things that kind of look (and act) like it. No one tell PEGI.
So technically, your Sims can’t get drunk. But a Sim’s mood can be influenced by drinking certain drinks. And, they can even overdo it if they’re not careful.
Drinking gives Sims moodlets

Grabbing drinks at a bar, sipping homemade nectar, and swilling juice kegs can all give your Sims special moodlets. It makes sense, really – I know I’ve felt a +2 Tense appear over my head in real time while drinking before.
These moodlets tend to be specific to whatever they’re drinking. In turn, your Sim will get hit with a buff affecting what mood they’re in. Just a few emotions they might experience include Happy, Flirty, Confident, Playful, Inspired, Energetic, Uncomfortable, and Angry. That sounds about right.
Every Sim holds their nectar differently

Sims will experience alco– I mean, juice, nectar, and other mixed drinks differently depending on which Traits, Fame Quirks, or preferences they have. For example, a Foodie Sim will feel particularly Uncomfortable if they drink something that’s sub-par. The same goes for Sims with the Refined Palate Fame Quirk.
Meanwhile, Sims with the Juice Enthusiast Fame Quirk or Bro Trait will take extra pleasure in having a drink in hand. They might even get upset if it’s been too long since they last enjoyed a Cupid Juice.
Special drinks, special effects

It’s not just Sims that are different from one another. Individual drinks have their own effects, too.
Whether they’ve been mixed at a bar or tapped from a keg, which drink your Sim orders will dictate how their night goes. If they grab a Kava, for instance, your Sim will enjoy a serene sense of Calm for the rest of the evening.
Meanwhile, if you grab one too many glasses of the incredibly unappetising sounding Potato Nectar, your Sim is going to be in for a bad time. Which you probably could’ve guessed, based on the fact they’ll be drinking some kind of homebrew vodka-moonshine combo.
