While visiting The Sims’ booth at TwitchCon 2025, I ran into long-time Sims Production Director Dave “SimGuruNinja” Miotke and asked him a few quick (semi-hard hitting) questions about The Sims 4, its expansions, and the future.
You said you’ve been at The Sims for almost 20 years. How has the community changed and grown throughout this time period?
The Sims community is the best community around. The creativity, passion, positivity, comradery, inclusivity… It’s lovely watching it grow and thrive.
It’s interesting because it fels like Sims had a modern day community before it all blew up, but it’s continued to grow as a natural extension of The Sims.
It always blows us away what they do with the game. We wouldn’t be here without community support. It’s really been amazing and magical.
How has the response been to the new expansion, Adventure Awaits?
It’s been good, especially the new getaway system. It’s super open and customizable. It’s only limited to what’s in your head. You can come up with any kind of crazy story that you want. There’s the Love Island-inspired show, romance competitions…
It’s been a great pack. I’m proud of it. It’s such a lovely thing to get in players’ hands and see what life they’re putting into it.

What are your favorite expansions?
It really depends on what color my Plumbob is. There are different packs for different days of the week. It’s whatever I’m feeling!
At The Sims News, we’ve had some writers express concern that The Sims 4 is going to get too bloated with the amount of expansions in the game. What are your thoughts on this growing debate in the community?
We’re really pushing the limits [of expansions] but safe limits. I’m not worried it’ll be bogged down. Not every person will play every expansion. We have wide offerings so you can pick the ones for you.
You don’t gotta catch ’em all or collect everything. It’s up to you what you wanna partake in. There’s something for everyone, from building families to going crazy with vampires to all kinds of skill packs.
So I know you probably can’t speak on The Sims 5, but it’s basically been confirmed it’s not happening right now. Players are wondering what the future of The Sims 4 will be.
I can’t talk about future products, but I can make some promises. One, we are very busy and have a lot on the horizon. And two, the team is passionate and committed to delivering new experiences players want.
The future is Plumbob green. It’s looking happy and positive!
How have you been enjoying TwitchCon?

Being able to converse in real time with people is absolutely amazing. Talking ot people that love The Sims and have played for years, talking about new and old stuff… It makes my heart so happy. I’ve also been hanging out with The Sims streamers and it’s been so nice just seeing everyone together.
We could all use a bit more positivity so it’s great to feel it.
Is there anything else you wanted to say to The Sims community?
I want to give a huge heartfelt thank you to the community, the fans, and the team. It’s a labor of love. We feel very strongly about it and thank everyone for being there with us.
