When it comes to customization of characters in life-sim games, The Sims 4 has becomes the standard over the years. From their hair style and colour options to facial features, height, clothing, and even personality traits, players can tweak nearly every detail imaginable to create their characters. However, with the recent arrival of InZOI, things have definitely had a bit of a shake up. So, let’s dive right in and have a look at how InZOI’s character customization stacks up against The Sims 4.
InZOI vs The Sims 4 – Which Has Better Customization?
Right off the bat, there is one major difference between the two games – The Sims 4 utilizes a cartoon character style, while InZOI has taken a realistic approach. Both are great at creating customized characters, and I could spend countless hours with either of these character designers just whipping up different outfits and aesthetics. But, let’s take a deeper look at the pros and cons of each setup.
In terms of base content, I’d say The Sims 4 probably has that advantage over InZOI in terms of having more pieces / selections to choose from. If you’re looking for a wide variety of hairstyles, or say, sports clothes, for example, then the Sims tends to have a broader range. However, to help make up for this, InZOI has also launched with the Canvas feature, which operates similarly to the Sims Gallery.
Here, players can upload and download different clothing pieces, preset Zois, hairstyles, and complete outfits, among other things. So, through this feature, there truly does feel like there is endless customization options for Zoi, and all without needing to download them as separate CC/Mod files – as this all happens inside the InZOI game.

Where InZOI’s character creator does seem to have the upper hand over The Sims 4, is through the physical customization/manipulation settings. Players have much more advanced body and facial sculpting and customization options than the options and sliders available in the Sims 4 character creator, enabling players to create even more personalized and unique creations. Essentially, customization to this level is impossible in The Sims 4 without the likes of additional toolkits or mods.
InZOI has also made the most out of more modern technology as it has become available, utilizing AI in both object creation and Zoi creation. Players can use the Facial Capture feature to scan their faces and become their very own Zoi, with their Zoi mirroring every single facial expression and speech in real time. This is perhaps one of the most immersive character creator features in a life-sim to date, and considering it’s just the beginning….the future for InZOi certainly looks bright.
Lastly, it’s important to note that essentially these new steps and features are not necessarily a direct cause of InZOI simply being ‘better’ or the Sims 4 being ‘worse’, but more to do with the fact that The Sims 4 has also many years old at this point, and undoubtedly, beginning to show its age against these new-age possibilities. To all you Sims players who have been curious about inZOI character customization, in my opinion, it is perhaps one of the biggest appeals/best features of the game, so far. So, if you’ve been on the fence, why not go ahead and give it a try?
