It’s safe to say that The Sims 4 players have been pretty skeptical ever since Electronic Arts announced that it’s likely being purchased by Saudi Arabia. Many content creators have announced that they will no longer support the game due to the buyout, leading an even bigger movement.
Now, EA is claiming that nothing is going to change at all.
EA reacts to player concerns over Saudi Arabia purchase
It’s a bit of a sad situation for the Sims community. The Sims 4 is known for being a pretty inclusive game, and a long-time developer even told me that inclusivity and community is the main goal of the game when it comes down to it.
This made it all the more upsetting when EA announced that it was being bought out by some questionable investors, like the Saudi Arabian government. What would this mean for Maxis and its game?
Now, EA is claiming that its studios will have complete “creative control” even once the deal is confirmed. In an official FAQ, EA stated: “EA will maintain creative control and our track record of creative freedom and player-first values will remain intact.”
This will likely not do much to squash players’ ongoing fears, including erasing all mentions of the LGBTQ+ community. We’ll have to see it to believe it.
It may be a while until we see, however, since EA claims the deal won’t close until six to nine months from now.
