The Sims Resource’s browser-based custom content viewer is out now

Wave goodbye to CASfishing with The Sims Resource’s newest tool. Say hello to the LookBuilder, a free web-based custom content viewer. It works a little like a virtual dressing room built directly into your browser, letting you grab a basket chock-full of community-made clothes, jewellery, and hairstyles to try out before you even boot up your game. The LookBuilder is officially in early access now, meaning you can hop right in and try it out for yourself.

The custom content viewer harks back to the dress-up dolls of the earlier internet. But this time, with a clear purpose (beyond making the most gorgeous girlie). It lets you test out custom content before downloading it. If you’ve downloaded custom content before, you’ll understand how important this is. It’s so easy to accidentally download that cute alt hairstyle, just to find out later that it’s completely broken. The LookBuilder makes this kind of hiccup a thing of the past.

During our early look at the asset viewer, we found it to be super straightforward without skimping on features. So, you’re in for a good time if you haven’t tried it out already. As well as the site working well and being super light-weight, it’s also a great way of grabbing a bunch of custom content all at once as a little bundle. Adding custom content to The Sims 4 has really never been easier.

The LookBuilder’s key features

Get ready to doll up your Sims with as much custom content as your heart could desire. The LookBuilder includes options for hair, jewellery, gloves, tops, bottoms, shoes, and all-in-one outfits like suits and dresses. Don’t worry about it getting too overwhelming, though. The filters allow you to narrow your options down to what you’re looking for.

The LookBuilder is integrated with The Sims Resource’s huge volume of custom content, so you could easily spend hours flicking through your options. Think of it a bit like a massive kilo sale, where you can grab as much as you want – except this time, it’s totally free. Whether you’re more into retro 1950s vibes or just want to have a crack at building the perfect recreation of your favourite anime character, you’re bound to be able to find exactly what you want in The Sims Resource’s catalogue.

You can also rotate and zoom in on the model so you can check out that the custom content you’re shopping for is definitely what you’re looking for. No more accidentally grabbing glitchy outfits that look perfect from the front and awful in the back.

All done with your try-on fest? It’s quite literally as easy as the click of a button to download all the custom content you selected during your shopping trip.

Grab your LookBuilder in-game merch here

An overview of five Sims wearing in-game merch from The Sims Resource's LookBuilder range, including sportswear like varsity jackets, a bucket hat, crop top, and more.

In case you aren’t sold on playing digital dress up yet (although if you’re anything like me, you won’t need much convincing!), then take a look at The Sims Resource’s new in-game merch collection. Launched in celebration of the LookBuilder entering early access, the range is a collaboration between the platform and its artists.

The range includes a selection of athleisure wear and comfies, including varsity jackets, tracksuits, a bucket hat, and a couple of other goodies. The whole collection is available here.
